General Idea filled the ceiling of the MoMA with Magi© Bullets. Their temporary installation became an edition. Because the individual Magi© Bullets lost helium over time, the idea of them as being exhibited objects was dispersed like the helium itself. Instead, they were taken away, like souvenirs, and spread throughout the world by the visitors to the exhibition. what remains gallery employed a few hundred balloons from the Magi© Bullet edition, using them as a pioneering form of shifting control system over a group exhibition. The inflated projectiles were, once more, filled with helium, ‚infecting‘ the ceiling like a virus within the non-curated space of the entire building – a form of parasitic counterpoint to each exhibited work. Signs drew the visitors‘ attention in a labyrinthine path through a disconcerting aspect of contemporary art production: The constant pursuit of attention. For us, in contrast to General Idea, it‘s less about the fleeting moment of an exhibition and more the creation of a situation which reflects the dynamics of the art world. Our intervention, therefore, sought not to be understood in terms of a collectable artwork, as might be the case with General Idea. It was an intervention during an event and, as such, an entreaty and proposition to adopt another perspective on art and to question the genesis, sustainability, and essence of our excessive art production, instead of the passive consumption of sensations.
