ANDREW BLACKLEY

The work that Blackley bequeathed us is based on transcripts of Hanne Darboven‘s calendars. In order to comprehend the visualization of time, he went to the MoMA archive and copied her writings. Blackley passed this concept on to us in the form of his transcriptions. The actual material was time. The prints are loaded with this idea through his dedication of time to them. For us, the attraction lies not in a depiction of Darboven‘s concept, but rather, in a transformation of this concept into a sensual state.

We want to add depth to ideas.

This corresponds more to our understanding of a sustainable cultural economy than an indulgence in a postmodern frenzy of possibility. For this reason, we create a situation in which it is possible to expose the audience to an artistic experience through the encounter with material. We let them participate in the mental and artistic process of what remains gallery in order to trigger an impulse to develop new ways of thinking – a transformation of the original, which one might call inspiration, and which establishes them as critically animated producers.
